thoughts inform actions
Happy Wednesday! On Monday, I wrote a post entitled “let things come to you,” which was all about letting yourself trust the good things that come your way. We’ve all been hurt in life and we’ve all hurt other people, but that’s not a reason to keep yourself from being happy or to keep yourself from going after the career you want.
I had a conversation the other day with a close friend of mine in which she asked me if I believed in manifestation. The short answer is yes. The long answer is that manifestation is a synonym for a number of other things: prayer, the law of attraction, positive affirmations. I believe that our thoughts control our emotions, which then indicate our actions and choices.
Everyone has different motivators in life, but it is important to stay positive. We, as a culture, are so often afraid to ask for what we want that we end up missing out on something that could truly make us feel happy and fulfilled. Instead of taking a step forward into the unknown, we revert to old habits that are comfortable - even if we know how those old habits play out and affect us negatively in the long run.
It’s important to live in the present with the future in mind. The past is important, yes, but it doesn’t control the future; it simply informs it. But all that depends on choices. And if you’re aware enough of your needs and why you do the things you do, you can see that thinking positively is a choice.
My friend and I have come a long way in our lives. We've known each other for over 10 years now, and it’s amazing to me to look back and see how many people (ourselves included) got caught up in unnecessary drama in their lives. We've both been through a lot, and it's really refreshing to see us both in such better places, navigating life, making decisions from places of happiness and self-assuredness instead of from insecurity and boredom. We still have insecurities, yes, but we're aware of them, which gives us the ability to take the power away from them. And when you've forgiven yourself for past mistakes and you’re happy with your present choices and your potential future, even the most mundane daily activities can make you feel utterly blissful.
Whether you’re manifesting, putting an idea out into the universe, praying to a higher power, or saying positive affirmations to yourself, the real point is that you’re acknowledging something about yourself, you’re recognizing that there are things out of your control, and you’re asking for a need to be fulfilled that you can’t do on your own. The world is relational, which is why that last part is so important. The only thing you can really control in life is yourself. You’re the only person who is responsible for your emotions and your thoughts and actions. By thinking positively and asking for something you want that you can’t give to yourself, you’re trusting that things that aren’t in your control can still find a way to work out in your favor.
By asking for something you want, you’re really setting a great precedent for yourself. I really encourage living in the present, but that doesn’t mean you don’t consider the future. You make choices in the present that help you achieve the future you want. By thinking with the end in mind (another term for manifesting), you train your subconscious to make decisions that help you achieve that goal. Your thoughts, therefore, inform your actions.
So, yes, I do believe in the power of manifestation. I don’t refer to it using that terminology, but I recognize that people have many different names for the same thing. If you have a long-term plan or set a long-term goal, you’ll make decisions along the way in the present to achieve that future. You can have the things you want in life if you just ask for them and then make choices along the way to achieve those things you want.
I know I said I'd probably be writing a post using a sports metaphor, which didn't happen today, so look forward to that post next week!!
